In accordance with Ontario law, Heron Park Tennis Club has a no-smoking policy. The club's policy includes all tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, pipes, snuff and chewing tobacco.
Heron Park Tennis Club's goal is to provide a healthy playing environment for its members. Smoking and second hand smoke have been established as a significant health risk. Cigarettes, cigars, pipes and smokeless tobacco products are known to be the main cause of mouth, esophageal, pharynx, lung and bladder cancers. They also have a role in causing cancer of the stomach, kidney, pancreas and some forms of leukemia. Smoking and second hand smoke are also a known cause of heart disease, stroke, diseases of the vascular system and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Promoting a smoke-free environment sets the right example, especially for junior members.
This policy applies to all club members and guests while on the club's premises. This policy is posted inside the club house and on the club's web site. There is also a no-smoking sign on the club's entrance gate. Members or guests found smoking on the club's premises will be asked by a club official or fellow member to stop smoking or leave the premises. If a second offense occurs, the member will receive a written warning. After a third offense, the member's club membership will be canceled without a refund.
This policy is effective immediately.
